My classes in the School of Education have provided me with up-to-date, research based teaching strategies and methods. Class sizes were small to insure direct communication and support from quality professors. Many practicums were built into our classes offering actual experience in the teaching field beginning my freshman year. As a student of the School of Education, I was required to attend several professional development activities each year and participate in interview processes to become accepted into the program and begin my student teaching. The School of Education continues to grow as they adopt a new program to teach English as a New Language and continue licensing programs in teaching Special Education.

Recognizing the rising Hispanic population in our school systems, I felt it prudent to get the minor in Spanish to improve communication with the parents of the Hispanic children I would teach. It is crucial for the child's growth to keep that line of communication open and effective. The ability to communicate was very rewarding during my student teaching and various other opportunities where the language barrier became an issue.

During the college search process, I visited several campuses and did much research in selecting the best opportunity for me to grow in my knowledge, in my relationships, and in my faith. It was quite the leap to decide to go to AU mainly due to distance away from home and the bitter cold you face in the midst of the school year. However, after visiting and speaking with several students and graduates, it was easy to make the decision. The school faculty sincerely care about my education growth and are determined to prepare me for the next phase of my life, teaching. I have been blessed to attend AU and to learn under a wonderful staff of faculty and leadership. I feel very confident that I could not have been better prepared anywhere else and I am fully prepared to take on the vital role of being a 'teacher'.
